Facing rising textile costs after the war in Iran, Kolon Industry FnC’s upcycling label, Rekod, has revived about 34,392 garments destined for incineration over 14 years to create new seasonal collections. Instead of letting unsold stock—typically burned after three years—go to waste, Rekod carefully selects durable pieces, deconstructs and recombines them into entirely new designs. Limited supply and handcrafted labor keep prices from being very low, even though material costs are minimal. As material prices push conventional brands toward 10–15% price increases for the coming FW season, observers say upcycle brands like Rekod could lead “conscious consumption” (ethical consumerism). Rekod is also expanding collaborations beyond fashion into home goods—using mattress offcuts to make room slippers, pouches, and cushions with partners like Simmons and Slowbed.
