Shinsegae Hosts Kim Ik-young Exhibition Showcasing Modern Take on Joseon White Porcelain

Shinsegae Department Store is presenting a solo exhibition by celebrated Korean ceramist Kim Ik-young titled “Landscape of White” at The Heritage through July 30. The show features about 70–80 works, including a new multifaceted piece called “Mountain,” and interprets the restrained color and form of Joseon white porcelain (Joseon baekja) in contemporary sculptural language. The display is organized into four zones — an archive of the artist’s work, a nature-integrated “Maru” (traditional wooden-floor space), a main gallery centered on the new piece, and a section of everyday vessels — and the basement gift shop will sell linked white-porcelain tableware and objects so visitors can experience craft in daily life. Shinsegae says this exhibition is part of its effort to reinterpret Korean aesthetics and expand cultural experiences through collaborations with artisans. Kim, who studied at Seoul National University, Hongik University and Alfred University (New York), has works in major domestic and international collections including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Korea), the Victoria & Albert Museum (UK), the British Museum and the Smithsonian (US).
