The Rising Star of Viola: Richard Yongjae O’Neill

Richard Yongjae O'Neill, a Korean-American violist, won the 'Best Classical Instrumental Solo' category at the 2021 Grammy Awards, outshining renowned pianists like Daniil Trifonov and Igor Levit. Born in Washington in 1978, O'Neill was raised by his Irish-American grandparents and Korean mother. He trained at the Juilliard School and has performed at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center. Since 2020, O'Neill has been a member of the world-renowned Takács Quartet and is scheduled to hold a viola recital in Korea this December.
