UK Producer Sees Path for Korean Musicals, Eyes BTS Stage Adaptation

James Steel, head of London-based James Steel Productions, visited Seoul for the 2026 K-Musical International Market and said he wants to build routes for Korean musicals to enter the UK market. Steel praised K-pop’s global appeal and Korea’s strong musical composition, expressing interest in producing a BTS musical. His company previously sold out a London showcase of the Korean work Inside William and he noted UK audiences enjoyed Korean reinterpretations of Shakespeare. Impressed by Korea’s stage design, inventive direction, and fan culture (fan culture), Steel is discussing co-productions and localization for at least two Korean musicals and plans further scouting in Daehangno (a Seoul theatre district). He expects growing exchange between East and West and aims to expand Korean shows into the UK and US.
