’Frozen’ Musical Opens in Korea with New Songs and Spectacle

The hit Disney film Frozen makes its Korean musical debut at Seoul’s Charlotte Theatre on August 13, running through March 1 before moving to Busan. The stage version, already successful worldwide and a Tony contender, adds 12 new songs to the original score for a total of 21 numbers, and features a live orchestra led by music director Kim Moon-jung for richer sound. Creators Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez extensively revised the opening ‘Vuelie’ to draw audiences into the world immediately. The show strategically reuses “Let It Go” three times—as the Act 1 finale, briefly in Act 2, and as a full-cast finale—and adds new music to Elsa’s escape scene to heighten the spectacle with freezing stage effects. Puppetry and actor movement bring Olaf and Sven to life differently than the film. The Korean cast includes multiple actors for key roles: Elsa (Jeong Seon-ah, Jeong Yoo-ji, Min Kyung-ah), Anna (Park Jin-joo, Hong Geum-bi, Choi Ji-hye), Kristoff (Cha Yoon-hae, Shin Jae-beom), Hans (Kim Won-bin, Hwang Geon-ha), and Olaf (Jeong Won-young, Han Kyu-jung, Lee Chang-ho).
