Frozen musical composers promise bigger, deeper music for Korean premiere

Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the songwriting couple behind Frozen, say the Korean premiere of the stage musical will offer "much bigger and deeper" musical and dramatic moments. The musical, adapted from the 2013 animated film and first staged on Broadway in 2018, includes 12 new songs not in the movie. Robert said he rewrote the opening number more than 20 times to get the structure and flow right. Act 1 still closes with the famous "Let It Go," redesigned to become a stunning, stage-freezing climax. New numbers like "Dangerous to Dream" reuse melodic motifs from "Let It Go," while songs such as "Monster" explore Elsa's struggle with power. Kristen noted that Elsa's lyrics are introspective and rich in natural metaphors, whereas Anna's are vivid and outgoing. They believe even audience members who haven’t seen the film will be surprised by expanded backstories and reversals, especially in Act 2. The Seoul run opens August 13 at Charlotte Theater in Jamsil and continues through March 1 next year; a Busan production is planned for 2027.
