Over 600 Korean Craft Masterpieces Tour 13 Venues Nationwide

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Craft & Design Foundation will run a traveling craft exhibition, “Visiting Craft Masterpieces,” from July through next February, bringing some 600 works by 104 makers to 13 venues across four regions (Gangwon, Yeongnam, Chungcheong, Honam·Jeju). Organized as part of the ministry’s “Our Neighborhood, Here It Comes!” program to reduce regional cultural gaps, the project features four curated shows reflecting each region’s craft character. Participating curators and national, public and local cultural sites will host exhibitions: Gangwon’s “Homo Faber / Homo Sentiens” spotlights tactile materiality and hand skills; Yeongnam’s “Yeongnam Yullyeo” (yullyeo: traditional Korean musical mode) links regional forms to the rhythms of gugak (Korean traditional music); Chungcheong’s “The Masterpiece of Korean Craft: Roots and Fruits” connects traditional and contemporary craft; and Honam·Jeju’s “Shared Assets” highlights craft’s cultural and communal value. Official opening is July 3 at Cheonan City Museum; schedules and visitor info will be posted on the foundation’s website and social channels.
