South Korea Expands Quantum Alliances with Canada, UK and EU at 'Quantum Korea 2026'

At Quantum Korea 2026 in Seoul, South Korea held government dialogues and roundtables with Canada, the United Kingdom and the European Union to deepen international cooperation in quantum technologies. Discussions with Canada focused on joint research, talent exchange and industry participation using programs like the Korea Research Foundation (NRF) and Mitacs. Talks with the UK emphasized commercialization, demonstrations, testbeds and standardization, exploring links between Korea’s 'Grand Manufacturing Challenge' and the UK’s ProQure procurement program. Engagement with the EU targeted expanded participation in Horizon Europe, stronger cluster and infrastructure links, and easing barriers (e.g., TRL requirements) for Korean researchers and companies. Officials agreed to promote joint R&D, pilot projects, standards, benchmarking and workforce exchanges to integrate Korea into the global quantum ecosystem.
