Teenagers' Group Suicide Raises Questions of AI Accountability in New Play 'No One at Fault'

Yangsanbak theater collective stages 'No One at Fault' from the 17th–26th at Mia-rigogae Arts Theater in Seoul. Expanded from the 2025 Dong-A Ilbo New Writers' Play winner into an 80-minute drama, the piece explores who is responsible when an AI recommendation algorithm is implicated in a case where students who viewed a particular post die by collective suicide. Government investigators, an algorithm developer, an SNS (social networking service) company CEO, a journalist and a conspiracy theorist trace the event from different angles, revealing a gap in accountability. Playwright Yoon Ju-ho, drawing on his real experience as an AI developer, stages conflicts between technology and ethics to argue that these are not distant SF scenarios but present social problems. The production, directed by Jang Jin-woong with a cast including Seo Hye-ju and others, also marks an effort to develop a short-listed New Writers' work from a 40-minute one-act into a full-length play, giving new life to debut works. Performances are weekdays at 8 PM and weekends/holidays at 3 PM and 6 PM.
