Van Leeuwen, the New York premium ice cream brand, chose South Korea as its first Asian market and opened its Gangnam Station flagship through a master franchise with Twosome Place. The shop replicates Van Leeuwen’s truck-style look and sells 24 flavors including its signature Vanilla Bean, made with a higher egg-yolk content for richer flavor. Products are manufactured in the U.S. and imported; a single scoop is priced at 5,500 KRW (cheaper than U.S. prices). Twosome plans two more Gangnam-area openings this month and will focus on a New York-style “scoop shop” experience rather than rapid expansion. Van Leeuwen will also offer vegan options (oat and coconut) and teases Korea-exclusive flavors coming in September. The entry intensifies competition in Gangnam’s premium dessert scene against local brands like Benson. CEO Ben Van Leeuwen said Korea’s taste profile suits the brand, and Twosome views Korea as a launchpad for broader Asian growth.
