South Korea Revises Public EV Charging Fees into Five Tiers; Slow 30kW Charging Cut by 9.1%

The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment confirmed a restructured public electric vehicle (EV) charging fee system, moving from two tiers to five starting next month. The new tiers are: under 30 kW, 30–50 kW, 50–100 kW, 100–200 kW, and over 200 kW. Most public chargers (about 90%) are slow chargers under 30 kW (완속충전기), whose price drops from 324.4 won/kWh to 295.0 won/kWh (a 9.1% cut). The 30–50 kW band also sees a modest reduction to 307.2 won/kWh. However, fees rise for chargers 50 kW and above: 50–100 kW to 325.6 won/kWh, 100–200 kW to 348.4 won/kWh, and over 200 kW to 393.1 won/kWh. The increases reflect higher installation and operating costs for fast and ultra-fast chargers and ongoing investment needs for charging technology and power management. The revised rates apply to government-operated public chargers and partner private chargers when paying with the ministry’s member card (로밍). The ministry plans further reforms linking EV charging fees to seasonal and time-of-use electricity rates to encourage renewable energy use and ease consumer costs over time.
