The Korea Theatre Welfare Foundation appointed Park Myung-sung, artistic director of Sinsi Company, as chair and current chair Gil Hae-yeon as CEO at a ceremony in Yangjae-dong, Seoul. Founded in 2005, the foundation is the only organization in Korea dedicated to theatre artists’ welfare, providing emergency living and medical funds and scholarships for children. Park, who led fundraising through the supporters’ group ‘Bokdeokbang’ (a donor circle) since 2020, has helped raise over 850 million won. The foundation will separate roles: Gil will handle operations and programs as CEO, while Park focuses on fundraising to strengthen the foundation’s sustainability. Around 100 guests from the performing arts community and government attended, including the culture minister.
