The 20th Busan Contents Market (BCM), held May 10–12 at BEXCO in Busan, reported record transactions of $306.7 million (approx. ₩465.9 billion), a 36% increase from last year. Deals included $51.45 million in contracts and $255.25 million in negotiations. Organizers attribute the surge to growing global demand for K-content driven by hits from Squid Game to recent series like “Chameokyo(참교육)” and expanding OTT (over-the-top) platform interest. Participation grew from 25 countries in 2007 to 55 countries and 700 companies this year. Notably, China’s National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) led a Chinese pavilion—marking the first Chinese government presence at the market since the 2016 ban on Korean cultural content (hanhanryeong)—and new countries such as Romania and Qatar also joined, signaling renewed international exchange.
