Masters of Modern Dance: Three Veterans Shape Korea’s Contemporary Scene

Seoul’s small theater M presents “MASTER M” on July 10–11, a collaborative program honoring three veteran Korean contemporary choreographers—Kim Won, Jeon Mi-sook, and Choi Sang-chul. Each artist offers distinct works tracing the past and present of Korean modern dance. Kim Won presents “To Each vol.2–Ludwig’s Moon,” a renewed piece from “SOS Sharing” that blends dance with sound and voice to explore cross-genre dialogue. Jeon Mi-sook performs a solo, “I can’t just loving stop you,” reworking her early-2000s piece (based on “Adieu My Love”) to reflect on bodily change over 25 years and ask what remains when reproduction is impossible. Choi Sang-chul stages “Their Debate,” translating social structures and inner fractures into restrained yet evocative movement that frames desire and conflict as debate rather than war. After the second performance on July 11 there will be a talkback with the choreographers and critic Kim Ye-rim. (M극장: M Theater)
