A photo exhibition commemorating the inaugural Miners' Day opened on June 29 around Taebaek Sports Complex, organized by the Kangwon Ilbo newspaper and Taebaek city. Marking Kangwon Ilbo’s 81st anniversary, the exhibit features historic images from the paper’s archive showing miners at work inside coal pits, coke-handling yards, and miner housing such as gatchibal (raised single‑story houses). Photos of mine sites, company housing, and daily life in Taebaek evoked nostalgia among visitors, who often paused to point out familiar scenes and share memories. Attendees — including former miners and residents — said the exhibition offered a meaningful chance to remember and preserve the city’s mining heritage.
