K-Musicals Go Global: Ivy Joins Broadway; Let Me Fly Heads to U.S. Festival

Korean musical talent is expanding onto global stages. Singer-turned-musical star Ivy will perform as Roxie Hart in Chicago on Broadway this August — the first time a Korean actor from a domestic production has taken the same role on Broadway. Ivy prepared with months of intensive English and acting coaching. Original Korean musical Let Me Fly (렛미플라이) was officially invited to the U.S. ‘Festival of New Musicals’ at Village Theatre in Washington state for workshops, readings and audience feedback, with its creative team participating in weeklong development sessions. These moves follow growing international interest in K-culture after successes like the Tony-winning A Very Merry Ending (어쩌면 해피엔딩) and reflect expanding government support and the larger K-Musical International Market (K-뮤지컬국제마켓), now positioned as an Asian musical exchange hub.
