Gangneung’s traditional Chodang tofu (초당두부), produced in the Chodang-dong area, has been chosen for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s 2026 K-Food Road cultural tourism project, securing 3 billion won over three years. The city will develop a ‘Chodang K-Food Road’ tourism hub featuring year-round programs such as a tofu festival, busking performances, tofu tasting tours, tofu cooking classes and craft experiences, youth pop-up stores, and QR stamp tours. The plan aims to transform Chodang-dong into a stay-and-experience culinary tourism destination, expand night tourism and history-linked food tourism, extend visitor stays, and build a sustainable food-tourism ecosystem tied to local businesses. Provincial tourism officials pledged administrative and financial support to grow Gangneung as a leading K-food tourism city.
