At the MyK FESTA held June 25–28 in Goyang (Kintex and Sono Calm Goyang), First Deputy Minister Kim Young-soo of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism described the event as a broader K-culture showcase that goes beyond K-pop to include beauty, food and fashion. The ministry has expanded its definition of “K-culture” to cover tourism to Korea, K-food, beauty and fashion exports as well as traditional content and arts, aiming for a 400 trillion won annual market by 2030 (274 trillion won in 2025). This year’s festival included K-pop concerts, pop-up stores for domestic K-culture companies, talk shows and export business meetings; attendance is expected to exceed 50,000. Kim highlighted participation by other ministries (Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Ministry of Health and Welfare), success in export contracts from the export consultations (including traditional brassware), and efforts to stamp out ticket scalping (“암표”). He said the festival helps small companies meet overseas buyers and that the government plans to expand the event next year.
