Geoje Selected for 'K-Food Road' to Create Samgyeopsal-Themed Gourmet Tourism Street

Gyeongnam Province and Geoje City will develop a samgyeopsal (Korean grilled pork belly) gourmet and tourism street in Okpo-dong and Aju-dong from 2024–2028 with 2.9 billion KRW in national and local funding. The project, branded "Sungeopsal 1592" (combining 'Sun' from Admiral Yi Sun-sin and samgyeopsal; 1592 marks the Imjin War and the Okpo naval victory), links the historic Okpo naval battle and Geoje’s shipbuilding culture. Planned attractions include branded goods, a "Sungeopsal grilling certificate" contest, K-BBQ classes for foreign visitors, a youth food start-up lab, and busking tied to radio and YouTube content. The Ministry of Culture aims to elevate unique regional food streets into global tourist destinations.
