'Book Village' at Seoul International Book Fair Showcases Indie Creators

The 2026 Seoul International Book Fair's 'Book Village' is a lively hub for independent publishers, art-book makers and small creators from Korea and abroad. With simple open booths, participants bring unique books and goods that are hard to find in regular bookstores and meet readers directly. Highlights include a Tokyo publisher 'One Stroke' showing 'Sketch on Journey,' a posthumous sketchbook collection published by Ai Komagata from her late father's work; 'Chaekdug' (a one-person press) presenting essays by English-speaking female comedians and an 'uncut' diary-format book made from eight years of daily entries; and 'D Object' publishing photo-archives of modern Korean history. Other booths feature illustrated merchandise and collaborative projects blending music, essays and books. Exhibitors say the value of paper books lies in shared, tactile experiences, and that Book Village—described as the "flower" of the fair—brings together distinctive creators who might be overlooked by mainstream bookstores.
