Restored Chuncheon Battle Operation Order No.31 Unveiled at National Chuncheon Museum

The National Chuncheon Museum presented a restored copy of Army 6th Division Operation Order No.31, a document related to the Chuncheon Battle—one of the three major victories of the Korean War. Presented during the museum’s monthly curator-led program 'Chuncheon Museum Highlights' (큐레이터 동행 문화유산 산책), researcher Kim Sun-ok explained that the order includes operational maps, lists, and wartime preparedness policies. The Chuncheon Battle is noted for civilian participation (students, citizens, and textile factory workers) who helped transport food and shells to hold back North Korean forces for three days. The original orders were written on low-quality paper with water-based ink and many were badly damaged; of roughly 110,000 orders produced by the Defense Ministry in the early 1950s, only about one-fifth have been fully restored. The museum credited the legacy of those who defended Chuncheon for allowing these materials to be preserved and displayed. The next 'Chuncheon Museum Highlights' program will be held July 29 on the theme of Buddhist art in Gangwon, focusing on a bodhisattva statue from the site of Seonlimwon (선림원).
