South Korea saw a record 4.74 million foreign visitors in Q1, but most stay in Seoul. A suggested 1-night, 2-day KTX itinerary from Seoul visits Daegu and Andong to showcase regional food, culture and easier logistics (KTX high-speed train). In Daegu, highlights include Dongseongno shopping street, the 70-year-old Junghwabangjeom restaurant—famous for original yakki udon (stir-fried noodle dish)—and historic alleys like Jin-golmok with a century-old hanok Starbucks and Mido Tea Room. Seomun Market, with over 4,000 stalls, offers must-try treats such as napjak mandu (flat dumplings) and novelty bingsu (shaved ice) flavors including danmuji bingsu (pickled radish) and kkakdugi bingsu (cubed radish kimchi). Daegu also runs one-day cultural classes for visitors (makeup, cooking, K-pop dance). On day two, travelers visit Manhyujeong pavilion in Andong—revived in popularity after the TV drama “Mr. Sunshine”—and can stay in nearby traditional homes. Hahoe Village, a UNESCO site, has seen rising Japanese interest after a Korea–Japan summit where leaders watched a spectacular julbulnori (string-fireplay) display: fire pouches slide down lines on the hillside (seasonal performances Aug–Oct; tickets via the Gyeongbuk platform). Recommended local stays include the hanok hotel Rakkojae, where the summit dinner was held. Transport options have improved with KLOOK selling KTX tickets and convenient rental cars at Dongdaegu Station (approx. 70,000 KRW/24h for a mid-size sedan). The sample schedule returns to Seoul the same night.
