South Korea’s Culture Minister Choi Huieyoung will attend the 13th APEC Tourism Ministers’ Meeting in Macau on the 27th to present Korea’s digital tourism policies and promote regional cooperation. With the theme “Digital innovation and strengthened cooperation: leveraging tourism for the Asia-Pacific community,” ministers from 21 APEC economies will review a joint declaration. Korea will showcase AI-based tourism R&D (research and development), voucher programs for tourism business innovation, a “tourism plus-tech” initiative to find tech companies for the sector, and AI-led local tourism pilot projects. Minister Choi will also hold bilateral talks with counterparts from China, Japan, Indonesia and Vietnam to discuss measures such as visa facilitation to boost travel. Korea, a vice-chair of the APEC Tourism Working Group (TWG), is pushing four recovery priorities: digital transition, human resource development, travel facilitation and sustainable, inclusive tourism growth. The meeting—first launched by Korea in 2000—meets every two years to coordinate regional tourism strategies.
