Convenience store chain CU has released three new bakery items using seasonal Haenam (a county in South Korea) sweet corn under its private brand 'Bakehouse405' to promote local agricultural products. CU says it buys large quantities from local farms to support regional economies and highlight domestic produce. The Bakehouse405 corn lineup includes a corn soboro bun (sold for 2,400 won) filled with sweet corn cream, a corn mochi pastry (3,000 won) topped with chewy mochi, and a corn castella (2,500 won) with red bean paste for added richness. CU also introduced five additional corn-flavored desserts — including a corn cream bread made with Yonsei milk, a corn tart topped with corn kernels, and corn-flavored chewy cookies — expanding summer corn options for customers. Bakehouse405 sales have been growing steadily, with cumulative sales surpassing 30 million items and the new corn series using about 2 tons of sweet corn.
