South Korea Deploys AI and Satellite Climate Tech in 10-Country Field Trials

South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) selected 10 international field trials through the new Climate Technology Acceleration Fund (CTAF). The projects will apply Korean public climate technologies—AI-driven smart grids, smart farms, satellite early-warning systems, and domestic neural processing units (NPU)—to tackle power network upgrades, water shortages, disaster early warning, and carbon reduction in partner countries. Three on-the-ground demonstrations start this year: AI smart-grid digitization in Cambodia, AI aquaponics smart-farm trials in Jordan, and a satellite-based early-warning system in Paraguay. Seven pre-planned projects (to move to field trials after 2027) include AI-MRV (measurement, reporting, verification) for heating emissions reduction in Mongolia and AI accelerator-driven data-center efficiency in the Philippines. The CTAF links Korean research institutes with GGGI’s country networks to test scalability and attract international climate finance and private investment. Officials said the program aims to move public climate technologies from labs to real-world impact and expand data-driven, satellite, and high-efficiency energy solutions globally.
