Pianist Yunchan Lim has been named 'Instrumentalist of the Year' at the Opus Klassik 2026 awards, the most prestigious classical music prize in the German-speaking world. The award recognizes his February release, Bach: Goldberg Variations. More than 680 albums and projects were entered this year, with 114 nominees across 28 categories and 37 winners selected. Lim is one of the youngest major individual winners and follows fellow Korean pianist Seong-Jin Cho, who won the same category last year for Ravel: Complete Solo Piano Works, marking two consecutive years of Korean pianists receiving this honor. The awards gala will take place on October 10–11 at the Konzerthaus Berlin (a major concert hall in Berlin).
