An immersive ‘Studio Ghibli Exhibition in Jeju’ opens July 11 in Donghwa Village, Jeju Island, bringing beloved Ghibli works to Korea with large-scale displays and exclusive installations. The 3,300㎡ main hall recreates iconic atmospheres from classics like Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle, and The Secret World of Arrietty, using immersive staging, sound, and original objects so visitors can feel part of the films. Unique Korea-only pieces include a giant Cat Bus with lifelike fur, a 5m floating Laputa (Castle in the Sky) airship, and a dynamic visualization of the spirit transformations from Princess Mononoke. The Jeju venue positions itself alongside Japan’s Mitaka Ghibli Museum (notable for its no-fixed-route layout and exclusive shorts) and Ghibli Park in Nagoya, but emphasizes nature-friendly design and local-exclusive content. The site also features a cozy ‘Korikoka Cafe’ and a merch shop ‘Dotori Forest’ selling licensed and rare goods. Organizers say Jeju offers an accessible alternative to traveling to Japan while preserving Ghibli’s warm, everyday charm and immersive spirit.
