Organ Odyssey: Pipe Organ and Sand Art Unite at Lotte Concert Hall

‘Organ Odyssey’ presents a summer matinée, “Gold: Organ and Sand Art,” on July 22 at Lotte Concert Hall. The program pairs majestic pipe organ music with live sand art (sand animation) to create a multisensory experience. Renowned organists and real-life couple Sun Kyung Noh and Grant Smith will perform organ duets on a single pipe organ, offering rich, collaborative textures. Sand artist Park Eun-soo will paint images in sand and light in real time to mirror the music’s narrative. Repertoire includes Ravel’s “Jardins d’enfants” (or “Gavotte from La Valse” context), Saint-Saëns’ “Carnival of the Animals,” Bach’s “Fantasia in G,” Rheinberger’s “Introduction and Passacaglia in E minor,” and Rachmaninoff’s “Tarantella,” showcasing the organ’s color and power. A unique feature is a live inside-the-organ broadcast: pianist and guide Kim Kyung-min will enter the instrument to explain pipes and mechanics while audiences watch the workings on a large screen. The event aims to make the pipe organ accessible to families and classical newcomers; tickets are 25,000 KRW.
