Beaches Open Nationwide as Korea Ushers in Summer Season

Summer beach season has begun across South Korea as major beaches reopen in stages to welcome holidaymakers amid forecasts of a hot summer. Popular beaches from Gangwon and Incheon to Busan and Jeju have opened or will open through late June, with local governments rolling out festivals, exhibitions and new beach attractions to draw visitors. Events include the integrated '2026 Gyeongpo Summer Beach Festival' (경포 여름 해변 축제) with a beach beer festival and music performances, a pop-art installation at Naksan Beach featuring artist Philip Colbert's lobster character, and dog‑friendly 'Dangsu Beach' (댕수욕장) and 'Pet Beach' areas for visitors with pets.
Authorities are also focused on consumer protection and safety: price checks and free amenities aim to curb overcharging, while more lifeguards, emergency treatment stations, accessible beach wheelchairs and expanded family facilities are being provided. Officials plan strict enforcement against illegal vending and tent 'al-bakgi' (squatting/setting up reserved camping tents) and will publicize standard prices online. Many localities will keep parasol and bench fees frozen to reduce visitor costs and operate patrols and inspection centers throughout the season.
