The Wonju City Symphony Orchestra and Wonju City Choir will present a joint concert titled 'Unfinished & Requiem' tomorrow at 7:30 PM, conducted by Jeong Ju-young. The program features Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 (often called the 'Unfinished') and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem (his only, famously unfinished work). Schubert and Mozart both died young, and despite being incomplete, these works are celebrated for their beauty—Schubert’s second movement melody is particularly admired, and Mozart’s Requiem is a cornerstone of the requiem (a musical Mass for the dead) repertoire. Soloists include soprano Woo Su-yeon, mezzo-soprano Kim Hyang-eun, and bass Lee Jin-su. Notably, local-born tenor Lee Chan-gu, a nearly 80-year-old honorary professor at Gangneung-Wonju National University and the first person from Wonju to graduate from Seoul National University’s vocal department, will perform with the city ensembles.
