Hybrid Summer Shoes Gain Popularity as Heat and Rain Return

As forecasts predict both intense heat and frequent rain this summer in Korea, hybrid shoes combining breathability and water resistance are rising in popularity. Items such as mesh flats (mesh material flats), jelly sandals (transparent, rubbery footwear), and “sand-sneakers” (sandals with sneaker-like soles) are selling strongly because they dry quickly and stay comfortable in hot weather. Market platforms report sharp increases: mesh flats up over 1000% in transaction value on one site, jelly styles up several hundred percent, and water-sandal categories up 21% or more across others. Sand-sneaker sales have also climbed, with a U.S. outdoor brand’s models showing about 35% higher sales year-on-year and some styles up ~85%. The trend reflects demand for practical yet stylish options that suit both casual and office wear amid unpredictable summer weather.
