Chuncheon Theatre Arts Festival Kicks Off with Four Ensemble Productions

The 2026 Chuncheon Theatre Arts Festival opened on May 20 at the Chuncheon Puppet Theatre (Chuncheon Inhyeonggeukjang) with a ceremony attended by local cultural leaders including the city mayor and theatre association officials. The eight-day festival runs through May 27 across Chuncheon, showcasing works by four ensemble (연합팀) teams. The opening piece, a joint production by theatre groups Masil and Gulle titled “Dendong Eomideon, That Long-Standing Tale,” sold out and recently won the Gangwon Theatre Festival grand prize, advancing to the national finals of the 2026 Korea Theatre Festival in Busan. A networking party and the Chuncheon Theatre Arts Awards (춘천연극예술상) honored local contributors, with Kim Mia and Lee Mi-kyung receiving this year’s awards.
