With summer temperatures reaching around 30°C, people are increasingly concerned about UV-related skin aging. UV rays cause aging and pigmentation; UVA penetrates glass and affects deep skin layers, while UVB causes redness and burns. Sunscreens come as chemical (organic) and physical (inorganic) types: organic filters absorb UV and convert it to harmless heat but can irritate sensitive skin and cause stinging or allergies; inorganic filters (무기자차) reflect or scatter UV, may leave a white cast (백탁현상) but are gentler and better for sensitive skin and children. Check SPF for UVB protection and PA for UVA protection—higher numbers and more “+” mean stronger protection. Apply about a coin-sized amount to the face, 30 minutes before going outside, and reapply every 2–3 hours. On high UV index days (check via the Korea Meteorological Administration), avoid going out between 10 AM–3 PM and wear long sleeves, a hat, and sunglasses.
