South Korean travelers are favoring ultra-short trips that maximize experiences in limited time, a trend dubbed 'time-value' travel (시성비). Analysis of Agoda searches from January–May shows Tokyo is the top weekend destination for Friday-evening to Sunday-night trips, followed by Fukuoka and Osaka; four of the top five cities are in Japan, driven by short flight times, a weak yen, and diverse offerings like food, shopping and concerts. China is rising quickly thanks to restored visa-free entry and expanded flights—Shanghai, Qingdao, Yantai and Dalian saw large search increases, fueled by trends such as influencer makeup experiences (왕홍 메이크업) and combined history-tourism (‘Historycation’). Taipei and Hong Kong remain popular for their city-nature mix and unique food culture. Agoda reports 22% of Koreans plan 1–3 day trips this year, reflecting busy work lives and economic uncertainty; travel platforms aim to meet demand with affordable stays, flights and activities for high-value short breaks.
