Burgundy Crémant Wins Korean Hearts as Champagne Prices Soar

As Champagne prices climb, Burgundy Crémant has emerged in Korea as an affordable, high-quality alternative. Imports have rebounded to about 80,000 bottles (Mar 2025–Feb 2026) after a dip, and import value recovered to €600,000 in 2025. Experts cite three strengths: versatile food pairing, premium sparkling quality at lower cost, and the trusted Burgundy name. A recent Seoul masterclass showcased eight high-end Crémants from historic family houses and innovative domaines — many emphasizing long lees aging, minimum bottle aging, organic or low-SO2 practices, single-vineyard terroirs, and classic Méthode Traditionnelle production. Notable examples include Maison Louis Picamelot’s multi-terroir blend, organic and mineral-driven cuvées from Domaine Dominique Gruhier and Bruno Dangin, and single-vineyard Les Grands Terroirs by Louis Bouillot. The trend reflects Korean consumers’ growing taste for value-driven, premium sparkling wines.
