Yeosu Eco International Music Festival Opens June 25 with 50 Top Musicians

The 11th Yeosu Eco International Music Festival runs June 25–28 at GS Caltex Yeulmaru near Yeosu’s seaside. Under the theme “Beyond Music, Opening the Senses,” about 50 top domestic and international performers, some 100 local young music talents, and 200 staff will participate in programs spanning chamber music, ensembles, opera, film music and commissioned works inspired by nature. Notable artists include several leading violinists, violists, cellists and pianists as well as the cello ensemble “Cellista.” Sixteen-year-old violinist Kim Hyun-seo was named this year’s artist. Artistic director and cellist Kim Min-ji, who has led the festival since 2023, emphasized the festival’s eco focus (reflecting Yeosu’s large chemical industrial complex) and sustainability measures such as digital programs and recycling-themed events. The festival also runs outreach “visiting concerts” in industrial complexes and will present concerts across Yeosu’s islands (e.g., Jangdo, Geomundo, Geumodo) to boost regional cultural exchange and support local music prodigies through performances and planned masterclasses.
