Artist Park Hyun-joo (58) opens a solo exhibition "Light's Presence" at YeongEun Museum in Gwangju, Gyeonggi, starting the 20th. The show surveys her work investigating relationships between light, color and material, from the gold-leaf relief series "Inner Light" to recent flat paintings called "Light Paintings." Using gold leaf and layered pigments, Park creates depth and reflective effects that expand the boundary between painting and object, suggesting unseen dimensions and sensory spatiality. Her recent "Light Paintings," made on water-based paper during a YeongEun residency since 2021, build up multiple painted layers whose accumulated traces of time reveal flows and movements of light. Park studied Western painting at Seoul National University and completed graduate studies at New York University and Tokyo University of the Arts; her works are in collections including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) art bank and YeongEun Museum.
