Craft Week Links Local Culture and Travel Along Baekma River

South Korea’s Ministry of Culture launches the 9th annual “Craft Week” (공예주간) from May 19–28 with Buyeo as the hub and events across 10 cities. About 450 craft-related activities — exhibitions, hands-on workshops, markets and travel programs — showcase regional materials and traditions: Baekje heritage in Buyeo, ecological craft in Sejong–Gongju, maritime crafts in Busan–Ulsan, industry-inspired work in Chilgok–Gumi, and studio tours in Jeju. Buyeo’s program, themed “Staying Through Craft,” includes village festivals in 123Sabi Craft Village (123사비공예마을), a Baekma River craft market, craft “run-cations,” outdoor reading gatherings and tea sessions. A special “Local Sense” exhibition in Seoul displays works by 12 regional makers. Regional zones offer activities like pottery making at Seokjangri Museum, hanok village craft tours in Jeonju, open studios and talks in Busan–Ulsan, industry-material reinterpretation in Chilgok–Gumi, and Jeju’s discounted “Pachi Market” (파치마켓) and studio stamp rallies. Nationwide craft centers and 218 studios, museums and galleries participate with markets and classes. Travel partnerships include Korail tourism craft trips and accommodation discounts.
