A PMI survey of 1,000 adults in Korea found 71.8% plan a summer holiday in 2026, but many are shortening trips and choosing nearby destinations to cut costs. The most common trip length is 1–2 nights (42.2%), and 74.2% plan domestic travel. Top domestic spots are Gangwon (33%) and Jeju (18.9%). Primary travel motives shifted toward rest and relaxation (28.7% as the single top criterion; 54.1% prefer full rest/healing), while costs remain a major worry—45.7% find holiday expenses burdensome. Rising peak-season accommodation prices were cited by 53.4% as the main cost driver; higher airline fuel surcharges also affected plans. To save money, many choose closer destinations, switch from overseas to domestic, adjust dates to avoid peak season, or pick lower-cost carriers and cheaper lodging. The report concludes that, amid high prices, Koreans are keeping vacation plans but favoring short, restful, nearby trips.
