The 'Korean Expedition to Remote Schools in Himalayas' (HiO-Tam) is a mission focused on exploration, sharing, self-realization, and environmental protection in the Nepal Himalayas. Since 2005, HiO-Tam selects individuals, including teachers and youth, for a transformative journey. The 19th expedition involved 14 days of activities like trekking, school visits, and cultural exchanges, with diverse participants including visually impaired students, supported by various organizations. The teams visited two schools in Kathmandu and a rural village, offering scholarships and supplies. They exchanged cultural performances with local students, symbolizing friendship between Korea and Nepal. The trekking included challenges like altitude sickness, showcasing the resilience of participants, especially those with disabilities. The expedition emphasized environmental awareness through activities like plogging with participants gathering litter. Despite missing snow due to climate change, the trek offered breathtaking views and reminded participants of the urgency of climate issues. This project reflects the value of cultural exchange and environmental mindfulness while fostering leadership and compassion.
