The 2025 Gangwon Theatre Festival is set to begin on the 22nd of this month and run through the 30th in Chuncheon. Nine local theater companies will present performances reflecting the unique stories of Gangwon Province. The festival will feature works that explore Gangwon's history and everyday life, providing depth and perspective on regional theater. Highlights include 'Soyang Girl' by Iryuk Company, which delves into the post-Korean War life around Soyang Dam (a major dam in Korea), and 'People of Bongcheon Stream' by Theater Company Utkki, capturing the lost market scenes due to urban redevelopment. Additionally, 'Small Harbor' by Chongbong Company portrays a seaside town coping with sudden changes, using humor to convey healing. The festival also includes the Gangwon Theatre Development Forum to discuss the future of regional theater.
