Chuncheon city in Gangwon Province is transforming part of the former U.S. military base, Camp Page, into an urban forest park to enhance climate responsiveness. Spanning 125,000 square meters, about 23% of the total area, the project emphasizes reducing urban heat islands, absorbing carbon, and minimizing fine dust. Facilities like walkways are being installed and will gradually open until completion in 2027. Challenges have included soil contamination cleanup and cultural heritage discoveries. Some of the site’s development sparked debate over its full park conversion. This initiative aims to improve city viewpoints and revitalize the area while addressing climate change.
