In 1956, Yunsang, an art collector from Pyongyang, held his only exhibition at Donghwa Department Store (now Shinsegae) in Seoul, showcasing works of 49 contemporary artists such as Kim Whanki and Nam Kwonjin. The exhibition sparked discussions about establishing a modern art museum in Korea. A unique guest book from the exhibition, featuring drawings and notes from 104 cultural figures of the time, remains a testament to its significance. The OCI Museum of Art is currently hosting 'Yunsang and Muse-Remembrances,' inspired by this guest book, including rare pieces like 'City' by artist Yoo Youngkuk. Despite plans for a second exhibition, Yunsang's early death left this promise unfulfilled, but his legacy endures in Korean modern art history. The exhibit features rare photos and offers new insights into the vibrant art scene of 1956 Korea.
