High international fuel surcharges and government tourism promotion have pushed Koreans to favor domestic travel. Major agencies (Hana Tour, Modetour, Yellow Balloon, Chamtteuthan Travel and others) are expanding region-specific, experience-driven and premium stay products: festival and history tours, island (e.g., Ulleungdo, Jeju) and small-city getaways, DMZ and culinary routes. Promotions include ‘high-class domestic’ packages with 5-star hanok stays, business-class-like perks, private itineraries, and themed island campaigns. The government’s ‘Year of Island Visits’ and travel subsidies also boost demand. Operators add multi-day stay formats, local food experiences, guided small-group trips, and simplified booking for foreign visitors. The trend targets nature, wellness, local culture and gastronomy to differentiate domestic offerings.
