The National Museum of Jeju signed a memorandum of understanding with the Kim Young-gap Gallery Dumoak to accept a large donation of the late photographer Kim Young-gap’s works. Nearly 98,652 items—including photographs and film—were transferred from the gallery in Seongsan, Seogwipo. Kim, celebrated for documenting Jeju’s orums (volcanic hills), fields, wind and clouds, is regarded as a leading photographer capturing the island’s changing nature and time. The two institutions will cooperate on preservation, research, exhibitions, educational programs and promotion; the museum will oversee systematic conservation while the gallery maintains the artist’s creative site. A special exhibition of Kim’s donated works is planned for June.
