Onshillium, a 2,500-pyeong (8264 m²) garden-café in Ulju-gun, Ulsan, offers lush greenery every season. Opened in 2018 and designated Ulsan’s first private garden, the site combines a glass tropical greenhouse, themed outdoor gardens, and a rooftop “sky garden” with views of the Yeongnam Alps (a mountain range). The tropical greenhouse houses about 160 plant species, including a rare Australian baobab and subtropical plants like Washington palms and hardy citrus. Outdoor sections are divided by theme—hydrangea terraces, a naturalistic garden, and the Golden Stair Garden—featuring transplanted native trees and European hydrangeas. Owner Lee Sang-chil, a veteran landscaper who began in floriculture in the 1980s, designed the space to preserve mature trees and used geothermal design and dense planting to stabilize greenhouse temperatures year-round. Recognized in 2024 among “30 Beautiful Private Gardens,” Onshillium also runs visitor programs and horticulture training. Lee says maintaining such a garden is costly but rewarding, and hopes it remains a place for families and nature lovers to relax with a cup of coffee.
