The number of jazz clubs in Seoul has grown from just over 10 five years ago to around 80 today; expanding throughout the metropolitan area results in over 300 clubs. This growth is largely driven by Korea's younger MZ generation. However, jazz is not always easy listening, requiring effort from its audience. To lower the entry barrier, Korean jazz musicians have created a series of 'Jazz Lecture Concerts' at Passage de la Musique in Hanam. Every Wednesday, experts ranging from musicians to critics hold talks accompanied by live performances. Notably, these lectures allow interaction between artists and the audience, covering various topics, from jazz fundamentals to the current state of Korean jazz and featuring prominent artists like bassist Song Mi-ho. Upcoming events include rhythm lessons by drummer Oh Jong-dae and trend-focused jazz exploration by editor Kim Hee-jun. These concerts provide a fun and interactive way for newcomers and enthusiasts alike to connect with jazz and gain deeper insight into the genre.
