Hotel Lotte has created a dedicated hotel operations subsidiary, Lotte HM (Hospitality Management), to expand its asset-light strategy and grow its contract (management) operations. Lotte HM will focus on staffing, systems, marketing and day-to-day hotel management, while Lotte Hotel & Resort will concentrate on brand strategy and asset oversight. The new unit, led by former global head Lee Jong-hwan, will start by operating the soon-to-be-rebranded L7 Gwangmyeong and aims to leverage Lotte’s brand, global network and purchasing infrastructure to attract property owners. The move mirrors trends in the Korean market: for example, Shilla established Shilla HM (Shilla Stay) to run multi-brand midscale hotels, and other groups like Hanwha and Parnas operate hotels on behalf of owners. Industry observers say contract operations let owners avoid operating burdens while gaining brand recognition, distribution, revenue management and operational know-how—boosting both profitability and asset value.
