A coalition of former directors and heads of the National Gugak Center, known as the "Emergency Issue Response Council," issued a statement opposing the organizational restructuring plan by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in South Korea. They expressed that the unilateral approach of the ministry undermines the center's symbolic status as the home of traditional Korean arts (gugak), and voiced concerns about plans to reduce educational and research functions. The council, comprising 13 former directors and research heads, also opposes recent changes allowing government officials to be directors, emphasizing the need for expertise in the arts for this position.
