The Kim Daljin Art Archives and Museum in Jongno-gu, Seoul, is hosting an exhibition called 'Seoul Museum of Art, Those Cries and Whispers' from November 7th. It focuses on the history of the former Seoul Museum of Art in Gugi-dong, not to be confused with a current museum of the same name in Buam-dong. The Gugi-dong museum, opened in 1981, was significant for early exhibitions of Minjung Art—a Korean art movement focusing on social and political themes. The museum hosted the first exhibition of Marcel Duchamp in Korea in 1987. Due to financial difficulties following the IMF crisis (International Monetary Fund financial crisis in late 1990s), the museum was closed in 2001. The exhibition includes interviews with past staff and artists, as well as archives of the museum, and will be available online after the exhibition ends on May 2nd.
